Event to educate entrepreneurs
Automation Alley will hold its “Capital Successes: Educating Entrepreneurs on Funding Solutions” event on Sept. 16 at Automation Alley’s Headquarters in Troy.
Jeffrey Prough, president and CEO of Critical Signal Technologies (CST), will talk about the avenues he chose while searching for funding, what worked and what didn’t, and the obstacles encountered along the way. Attendees will learn what plans must be place, what to ask and what to present to an investor in order to secure funding.
As the nation’s largest independent provider of personal emergency response systems and one of the most innovative and respected providers of telehealth monitoring systems, CST is inventing cost-effective solutions for better health care. Prior to forming CST, Prough was president of one of the country’s largest independent security companies, Guardian Alarm Company, and president of their three subsidiaries.
The event is sponsored by Hennessey Capital; registration and networking begin at 5 p.m. The program runs from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Pre-registration cost is $20 for Automation Alley members and $40 for nonmembers. At-the-door price is $30 for members and $50 for nonmembers. Pre-registration closes at the end of business on Sept. 14.

Bloomfield Hills husband, wife to be honored at Walsh ceremony
Bloomfield Hills residents Anthony and Sarah Earley will be honored at the Walsh College Leadership Awards. They will each receive the Jeffery W. Barry Award for Educational Excellence and Community Service on Nov. 13 at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester. Anthony Earley is chairman and CEO of DTE Energy and Sarah Earley is founder and president of the Belle Isle Women’s Committee. The Barry Award is given annually to individuals who demonstrate leadership in business and a philanthropic commitment to the community.
Also being honored are:
— Troy resident Dennis Harder, managing director and head of Michigan middle markets, The Private Bank; with the 2010 Walsh College Distinguished Alumni Award.
— New Baltimore resident Alexander Schwallbach, chairman and CEO, A.G. Schwallbach Inc.; with the 2010 Walsh College Distinguished Graduate of the Last Decade Award.
The event is 7-8 p.m. Tickets are $250. A silent auction and raffle will benefit the Jeffery W. Barry Scholarship Fund and the General Scholarship Fund.

The Metro Detroit Entrepreneurship Institute meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Clinton Macomb Public Library, 40900 Romeo Plank Road, Clinton Township. The MINDs Eye Bookstore and Learning Center has opened in Mount Clemens, at 81 Macomb Place. They offer a variety of books, DVD’s and CD’s on spirituality, religion and wellness, which ties into Mount Clemens history as the medicinal mineral bath capital of the United States. They also carry books and multimedia offerings on alternate health and wellness methods and an array of gifts from India, Nepal and Bali. There will also be monthly lectures and workshops on a variety of topics. The first one will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 on Primordial Sound Mediation.
