Nominations close Nov. 1 for the Auburn Hills Chamber of Commerce “North Oakland Employee of the Year Contest,” which offers as its grand prize, a six day Caribbean Cruise and airfare. The contest is expected to become an annual event.
Every employee nominated by their employer for “Employee of the Year” status will be feted at a Meadowbrook Hall reception on Dec. 1. Pilchak Cohen & Tice, P.C., a management-side labor and employment law firm, is co-sponsoring the contest. The contest is open to all employers with offices, facilities or operations in Northern Oakland County, north of Big Beaver Road/Quarton Road. Free auto inspection open house held
Body by Bruce, 6200 East 11 Mile Road, Warren,  is hosting their free Winter Prep Inspection Open House from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. today. The facility’s experts will provide attendees with a free five point vehicle inspection, which includes checks on tires, wiper blades, lock functionality, battery life and the vehicle’s fluids. They will also provide free body repair estimates and 10 percent of the profits from any repairs resulting from the day’s estimates will be donated to the University New Gratiot Lions Club. There will also be free cider, donuts and coffee and a Halloween ready pumpkin for those that attend. A drawing will also be held every hour for a free auto detailing package, valued at $200. LTU holds Entrepreneurship Week competition

Lawrence Technological University will host the SpurNewBiz Video Pitch Competition as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, Nov. 15-21. Open to all Michigan residents 18 and over, the competition encourages entrepreneurs to take their ideas to the next level with three-minute pitch videos demonstrating the potential of their proposed products. By Nov. 1, entrants must submit their video pitch and fill out a company profile on the SpurNewBiz group page, www.pitchcorner.com, a video-based website where entrepreneurs pitch their new business concepts to the world. Between Nov. 12-15, entrants must post their three-minute pitch video to the site. The winning pitches will be selected Nov. 18 and announced at an awards ceremony at Lawrence Tech.
