Accelerate Michigan launched
Business Leaders for Michigan and the University Research Corridor announced the formation of a new partnership called Accelerate Michigan, to help support efforts to make Michigan a “top ten” state for economic growth. Based on benchmarking performed by McKinsey & Company, the partnership will become one of the largest of its kind between a state’s largest businesses and research universities.
Accelerate Michigan already has started work in three areas and set additional goals to accelerate the state’s economy: Championing entrepreneurship and innovation, growing capacity to scale ideas and catalyzing clusters of innovation. Visit www.michiganturnaroundplan.com for more information.

Perry’s Tents & Events of Pontiac has won the 2010 Pinnacle Gold Award from the International Festival and Event Association for Best Vendor for their work at the Target Fireworks (Detroit Freedom Festival).
This award resulted from their nomination by The Parade Company of Detroit. Perry’s Tents & Events was selected Best Vendor from over 200 submitted World Class Events. Additionally, Perry’s Tents & Events won second place in the 2010 WDIV Vote for the Best Competition sponsored locally in the Detroit area.

Achatz offers online ordering for Thanksgiving pies
Chesterfield Township-based Achatz Handmade Pie Company has revamped its website — www.achatzpies.com — to allow customers to order their Thanksgiving pies online and specify which of the seven area store locations and what day they want to pick up their pie.
Orders are prepaid online, so there will be no need to wait in line at the store. Customers have until Nov. 19 to visit the website and pre-order their Thanksgiving dessert needs from the 37 different flavors available, including Sweet Potato, and Sweet Potato with Marshmallow Meringue.

Medical center names new human resources vice president
Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center announced that Laura Gibbard joined its management executive team as vice president of Human Resources.
Previously, Gibbard was vice president of Human Resources at POH Regional Medical Center. In addition to serving as a human resource generalist at the Detroit Medical Center, she was a regional manager of Human Resources for American Medical Response and The Becker Group.
