TROY Social media topic of lunch
A workshop about how social media can improve your marketing strategies is 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9. It is hosted by the Michigan Homeland Security Consortium. The workshop is part of a Lunch & Learn Series held each month at Automation Alley Headquarters at 2675 Bellingham Drive in Troy. This is geared toward the homeland security and defense sectors. Veterans Entrepreneur Conference on horizon
The fifth annual Southeastern Michigan V.E.T. Conference begins at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the Michigan State University Management Education Center, 811 W. Square Lake Road, Troy.
There will also be a Vets Night Out networking event from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Management Education Center and there is no admission fee. Refreshments and a cash bar will be available.
This year’s conference will feature 16 breakout sessions and a pair of keynote speakers. Among the topics to be covered will be 10 steps to doing business with TACOM, starting a business, financing a business and selling to the Army Corps of Engineers.

The Detroit chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women, (CREW), luncheon meeting will focus on “Golden Opportunities Hidden in the Tidal Wave of Distressed Properties” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Schoolcraft College, VisTaTech Center, room W210B, 18600 Haggerty Road, Livonia.

The Walsh College Leadership Awards Dinner is 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Royal Park Hotel, 600 East University Dr.
WDIV-TV Channel 4 news anchor Devin Scillian will act as master of ceremonies at the event. All proceeds from the awards dinner benefit the Jeffery W. Barry Scholarship Fund and the General Scholarship Fund.

DETROIT
Former U.S. Secretary William S. Cohen keynotes gala
William S. Cohen, former U.S. Secretary of Defense and senator from Maine, is the keynote speaker for the seventh annual It’s A Wonderful Life Gala. The dinner and gala is  6 p.m. Nov. 12 at The Westin Book Cadillac, 1114 Washington Blvd., Detroit.
Serving as the event’s master of ceremonies is Chuck Stokes, editorial/public affairs director at WXYZ-TV/Channel 7.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Presbyterian Villages of Michigan Foundation residents and community seniors.
The gala is themed Made in Michigan, and it will highlight products, companies, destinations and people. It will also feature an auction, dinner and program.
Tickets are $200 and include a general cocktail reception at 6 p.m., dinner and program. Patron tickets are $325 and include a private VIP reception at 5 p.m. with Cohen, prime seating at dinner and recognition in the event program.
