Oakland Press executive editor and WWJ’s station manager speak at marketing presentations

Community Marketing Associates is hosting “Keys to Successful Community Marketing,” a one-hour PowerPoint presentation for local small businesses. Glenn Gilbert, executive editor of The Oakland Press and Pete Kowalski, station manager, WWJ/vice-president of sales at CBS Radio will be the guest speakers, discussing how local businesses are selected for news stories. The free presentations are only available to business owners/managers of a Berkley business. The presentation outlines the marketing advantages for local businesses linking together to promote the community and their businesses. The three presentations will be held: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 7; 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8 and 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9 at Berkley Public Library, 3155 Coolidge in downtown Berkley. DADA selects new officers

The Detroit Automobile Dealers Association has selected new officers for 2010-2011. James T. Seavitt of Village Ford in Dearborn moved up to become president, Robert R. Shuman of Shuman Chrysler-Jeep in Walled Lake became vice president and Scott LaRiche of Lou LaRiche Chevrolet in Plymouth became treasurer-secretary. Shuman, a third-generation dealer/owner, is president of Shuman Chrysler-Jeep in Walled Lake. Holding an accounting degree from Michigan State University and a law degree from the University of Michigan, Shuman practiced law with the firm of Beier Howlett in Bloomfield Hills, eventually becoming a partner in the firm. Shuman gave up law to take over the family dealership in 1997. LaRiche is executive manager/vice president of Lou LaRiche Chevrolet in Plymouth. LaRiche is active in the Plymouth-Canton and Northville communities.

Program helps people take charge of their credit situation

The Michigan State University Extension Service and United Way are sponsoring a free program called “Taking Charge of Credit for the Holidays” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 4 at the VerKuilen Building, 21885 Dunham, Clinton Township. The program teaches how to determine how much debt you can afford, how to be debt-free during the holidays, how to set a budget for holiday shopping and how to enjoy your holiday for less.
