Walter J. Powrozek of Novi’s Sigma Financial Corporation, has been recognized as a “Five Star Wealth Manager” by HOUR Detroit Magazine and DBUSINESS, a business journal. Powrozek is an independent wealth manager. Less than 7 percent of Detroit Metropolitan area wealth managers, which includes financial advisers, accountants, and tax advisers were chosen for this group.

Michelle Carter elected director to Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association
Michelle Carter, a partner in Bodman LLP’s Troy office, has been elected to a three-year term on the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association’s board of directors. Carter also serves as the 2009-2010 president of the Wolverine Bar Association. She is recognized as a Rising Star in “Michigan Super Lawyers” under Business Litigation.

Detroit Zoo adds environmental services manager
The Detroit Zoological Society recently appointed Sarah Popp to manager of environmental services. She will be responsible for leading the society’s “Greenprint,” an initiative designed to make the Detroit Zoo a showplace for green facilities and operations and reduce the zoo’s carbon footprint. Previously Popp worked at the Oakland County Health Division as a public health sanitarian. She has also worked as a policy analyst for Renewable Energy and the Environment for the Office of the Governor and Department of Environmental Quality in Lansing. In 2008, Popp received the 3M prize for outstanding achievement in industrial ecology, and currently serves as a conservation committee member of the Sierra Club.
