HIPAA workshop for health care providers offered
Practice management panelists present “Are You HIPAA Compliant?” is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22 at The Westin Hotel, 1500 Town Center, Southfield.
Panelists will discuss HIPAA’s newest regulations and how to meet them, practical and effective routes to HITECH dollars and effectively implementing electronic health records.
Panelists include Deborah Williamson, JD, health care law attorney at Warner Norcross & Judd with special expertise in HIPAA; Nathan Steed, JD, attorney at Warner Norcross & Judd with expertise in federal health privacy compliance and technology law; Michele Morlock, RN, JD, of Morlock-Noren with expertise in the legal, business and clinical aspects of health care administration and operations and Melissa Noren, BS, of Morlock-Noren with extensive expertise in health care information technology.

Center for Professional Studies puts professionals back into the workforceThe Center for Professional Studies of Troy has a program that is putting technical professionals back into the workforce making in the $100,000 salary range and paying taxes again.
Since 1993 the center has certified over 7,000 technical professionals at over 400 corporations with hands-on application of key tools, techniques and methodologies in multiple industries. It is a State of Michigan licensed vocational school.
Since June 2009, the center has taken this corporate training curriculum and applied it to retool unemployed automotive, experienced technical professionals who already have Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with targeted certificate based training credentials.
Since June 2009: 130 unemployed technical professionals enrolled; 90 students have graduated and completed their certification; 85 (94.4%) graduates are now employed in their chosen career; 59 different companies have hired graduates and 34 of these companies are not in the automotive industry.  The Detroit Chapter of the American Marketing Association announced that “Made in Michigan” is the theme for the 2010-2011 programming year. AMA Detroit is kicking off its new programming year at 6-8 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Embassy Suites in Southfield. They will be joined by the masterminds of the nationally renowned Pure Michigan marketing campaign- George Zimmermann and Christine Cowan who will discuss the campaign that has earned four Mercury Awards by the National Council of State Tourism Directors. City holds commercial property open house
The City of Auburn Hills, is holding a commercial property open house to showcase the available commercial offerings listed in the downtown area. Sponsored by the Auburn Hills Tax Increment Finance Authority, the event is 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, beginning at the city’s downtown satellite office, 3395 Auburn Road, Suite A.
According to Tom Tanghe, Auburn Hills’ Assistant City Manager, the city seeks to connect potential owners and lessees with the unoccupied storefronts, office space and lots currently available to develop into viable, thriving establishments in Downtown Auburn Hills.
