Student business idea competition opens
The Business Accelerator Network for Southeast Michigan, a network for building and retaining new business in southeast Michigan, has opened registration for the Accelerate Michigan Student Idea competition.
Any undergraduate or graduate student attending a Michigan college or university in the fall of 2010, may enter. The competition will award $50,000 to the top business ideas and concepts. All participants are required to submit a one-page business idea. Semifinalists will submit a three minute video pitch and formulate a 15 minute in-person pitch. The deadline for initial applications is Oct. 22.

Macomb-OU INCubator awarded 2 grants

The Macomb-OU INCubator in Sterling Heights has been awarded two federal grants totaling $841,000 to make building and technology improvements and assist companies looking to make the transition from automotive business to industries such as defense and homeland security. It includes a $391,000 grant from the federal Economic Development Administration for the technology upgrade and a $450,000 grant as part of the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s Business Incubator, Corridor Strategy and Industry Diversification Support Program. The grant will allow the incubator to partner with the Michigan Small Business Technology Development Center to help businesses that have served the automotive industry venture into new industries such as defense and homeland security.

Dentistry hits 50

Auburn Village Family Dental Center is celebrating 50 years of dentistry in Auburn Hills. The office was opened in 1960 by Dominic J. Ciaramitaro DDS and is now led by son Carlo Ciaramitaro DDS.
